Riverbend Estates Groundbreaking Ceremony
On Thursday, November 3, 2016, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for Riverbend Estates, a new affordable housing community for seniors located in Washington, Missouri. Community leaders and development partners celebrated the commencement of construction along with the rest of the community.
More than 75 community members attended the celebration, which included a brief program with remarks by Chuck Pierce, MOCAP Development and Missouri State Senator Dave Schatz, as well as keynote speaker, Washington Mayor Sandy Lucy. “Thank you for choosing Washington. Our city is always growing and improving, and these are the types of things that turn our communities into a more valuable place,” said Lucy. The program was followed by the groundbreaking ceremony and refreshments from local caterers, Schulte’s Bakery and Drogey’s.
Riverbend Estates is located approximately 45 miles southwest of St. Louis and will feature onsite management, a community room, fitness center and computer center, among other amenities. Nearby conveniences include transportation services, restaurants, banks, shopping and Mercy Regional Hospital. Within two miles of the property is historic Downtown Washington, which features local businesses and restaurants.

UnitedHealthcare is making the investment in partnership with Affordable Equity Partners (AEP) through the use of Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), which were approved by the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC). The property is being developed by MOCAP Development, a company with almost 50 years of experience in developing affordable housing. The property will be managed by Fairway Management.
