Myrtle Terraces Ribbon Cutting

(GAINESVILLE, GA) – More than 75 people came together to celebrate the grand opening of Myrtle Terraces, Gainesville’s newest affordable independent senior living community located at 1326 Myrtle Street SE.

In his keynote speech, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, stated that the low income housing tax credit, “is giving people an opportunity for a better quality of life.”

In addition to the Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, the speaker’s panel included Myrtle Figueras from the Gainesville City Council, Dr. Schrader, President of Brenau University and Camilla Knowles, Commissioner of DCA.

“In light of the need for continued development of senior independent living in the City of Gainesville, Myrtle Terraces is a long-awaited project which will serve to fill one of the gaps for our senior citizens. The City appreciates the Beverly J. Searles Foundation for improving the quality and dignity of the lives of so many,” said Council Member Myrtle W. Figueras.

Myrtle Terraces consists of one- and two-bedroom units plus community areas. On-site amenities include a dining area, private dining room, game room, TV lounge, library and computer center, exercise room, beauty parlor and dayrooms, as well as the 8.4 acre “pocket park” located adjacent to Myrtle Terraces. With places to shop, the senior center, the Francis Meadows Aquatic Center, restaurants and more in close proximity, the residents of Myrtle Terraces Senior Village will have direct access to all of the amenities that make Gainesville an attractive place to live.

Philip Searles, President of the Beverly J. Searles Foundation, expressed thanks to the private and public partners for their participation in this lovely housing community of 84 apartments for seniors, aged 55 and older. “Myrtle Terraces was founded with a mission to provide senior adults a luxurious and carefree living experience, at a realistic and affordable cost.”

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Affordable Equity Partners, Inc. and the Beverly J. Searles Foundation are among the public and private partners that participated in this community.
